It's almost SUMMER!!! Swimming camps will be opening. Everyone is headed to the beach and lake side. Jet skis to be rented but what if you're catching more than your good share of vitamin D...?
I found it interesting, that for the first time in my 25 years, I was feeling very uncomfortable DOWN THERE. I had never had any problems before, maybe some irratation once when I was a little kid playing in the mud making mud pies to the point my pants were soaked, but other than that I was scott free. But this feeling was different. It was continuous.
Thank God it wasn't SO uncomfortable that I needed to go to a doctor right away but enough to make me pay attention. I ignored the slight irration I had been feeling, thinking maybe it would go away or that my underwear was too tight and I needed to simply let my vagina breathe. A week passed and the slight irratation neither grew nor dissapated, so I didn't think too much of it but the thought was in the back of my mind.
It wasn't until I went Jet Skiing for the first time, that following week that my irratition began to develope. I don't know if it was the ruffness of the jet ski mixed with the dirty, mucky, green-brown water but after that day, prayer was at the top of my list. My first thought was, "I haven't done anything to get a STD so what is this...?" I literally began to experience different symptoms that after a few days would not go away.
Now, I don't know about you but God speaks to me EVERYDAY. The same way you talk to your parents, sibliings, spouse, or friends. So, in my quiet time I began to meditate and pray thinking on what could I have possibly done to myself to cause this to happen. God, then, put it on my heart to use coconut oil. "Coconut oil?", I thought. "It is used as a natural lubricant and has anti-septic properties. What do I have to lose?" After applying the Virgin Coconut Oil topically, I immediately felt more irritation and a slight increased burning sensation. "Coconut Oil doesn't hurt getting into your eye so I hope this means it is an anti-septic properties are working..." Another thought then came to mind, "Could this be a yeast infection?"
Again, never having experienced any type of infection, I didn't know the symptoms of a yeast infection. So, I searched online and read the list and sadly could relate to every symptom: irratation, itchiness, redness, swelling, burning and in some cases, a thick, white, odorless discharge, resembling cottage cheese (this one really got me). I had finally found what the heck was going on with my body and was QUITE relieved. This was how I was feeling at that very moment to a 'T'! I then began to look up natural remedies for yeast infections seeing that I was very sensitive down there, I don't like medicine and only use them when I truly have to.
I didn't find much but what I did find was helpful. I came across an article stating that some women, using a tampon doused in tea tree oil, received immediate relieve, but it did not advise the use of the tampon because of the sensitiveness and swollen state the vagina was already in. Tea tree is know for its natural anti-septic/anti-fungal properties against yeast. God had already given me the idea of the coconut oil, now reading an article (click here to read), along with a few others I had a plan. And if it didn't work I was definitely going to the doctor in the morning.
I poured a small amount of Virgin Coconut Oil into a brand new, soft tip applicator bottle I had never used before (the tampon seemed like a painful idea and I was too swollen and irritated to insert medication), along with about 6-7 drops of Tea Tree Oil (both purchased from Trader Joes). I applied the oils as you would a douche and as I layed down for bed, I immediately began to feel better. I woke up the next morning, to my surprise, with NO FORM OF IRRATATION. My redness and swelling were both gone. No itchy or burning sensation. Only a tiny-tad of discharge, which I figured had to come out any way. I felt great and not even a SLIGHT bit of uncomfortableness. So just to make sure, I applied my Coconut & Tea Tree Oil mixture once more and decided to watch myself.
TAKE NOTE:Even though the oil mixture reduced my symptoms and irritation, it did not completely get rid of the infection.
After two days of applying my oil concoction, I finally felt like I could go to the store to purchase medication now that the symptoms had gone down. I picked up a 5 day Monistat and hadn't had a problem since. Feeling a bit irritated? Try it out and tell me how it works for you?
